News Update Spring 2021

NEWS UPDATE SPRING 2021

Since early spring of 2020 we have all had to endure the worries and restrictions of Coronavirus (Covid-19), restricting our day to day lives in every way imaginable. Including our ability to go fishing, missing out the opportunity of casting a line for several weeks through the early part of 2020,

Fortunately however with strong campaigning in parliament from the Angling Trust and other governing bodies, clubs etc. fishing was soon reinstated as the one sport / pastime we have been able to pursue throughout the rest of the year. This is subject to some government guidelines which have worked very well. Do check out our Covid-19 page on this site for guidelines, advice and rules.

Many of us have lost, or know of someone who has lost, family members or friends as a consequence of this terrible virus. It saddens me to inform you that our dear chairman and part founder of the club Roy Anders sadly past away on the 7th January 2021 aged 86. For more years than I can to remember Roy had been the happy jolly face round the lake whether chatting to the anglers or fishing himself for one of our specimen carp with one of his special secret boilies. Much loved and much missed by us all who had the pleasure of knowing him, our thoughts and condolences lay with his family.

In memory of Roy, the club will be funding a commemorative bench on site near his favoured fishing spot very soon.

Rest in peace Roy our dear friend and colleague.

Throughout the latter of this winter the club has been busy making good the banks and platforms round the lake in readiness of our new year which starts on the 1st April. Work is also due to start on our ponds at Brookwood, building new platforms and bank work. However, due to the ground being too wet at the moment, work has had to be delayed for now but we will get cracking as soon as we can.

Due to Covid-19, we are not able to hold our usual work parties to undertake maintenance work until further notice. So, in order to keep on top of things, the club needed to use club funds to employ contractors to undertake urgent repairs. After several quotes received, DCH Fencing in Woking were given the contract which is split into three parts;

  • Part one - the lake banks and platforms -now complete

  • Part two - woodchip compound- is due to start very soon

  • Part three - brookwood ponds as mentioned above - will be started ASAP

Our thanks goes to Darren and his guys for their great work so far.

Fishing on the lake and ponds throughout 2020 once again proved very successful with some notable catches on all three waters. Bags of Bream, Tench and Roach were showing well and some cracking Carp being reported from the lake. Along with lots of action on the ponds producing plenty of silvers, big roach, tench and rod bending carp. All of which has seen our membership rise considerably throughout 2020 to over 200, and growing. This makes our relatively new club well and truly on the map of places to fish and enjoy, whether on a day ticket or as an annual member.

Please note that, again due to restrictions in place at this time, all matches, events, etc. are postponed

until further notice. Hopefully later in the year, as things improve, we may be able to get back to running a one or two events. If this is the case notifications will be posted on this site.

Watch this space and have great new angling year.
